Is there a new rule out on the method of how players choose who goes first?

I don't think so. Just a random thing, then the winner chooses who goes first.

That is what we thought but throwing it out there to see if we have missed anything.

Thanks for the info

If you're talking about the other thread regarding Top 8 and who goes first, that's all some peoples' speculations about how they think things should be run.

As for who goes first, as long as both players agree to a random way to determine who goes first, you can do whatever you want. Higher dice, rock-paper-scissors, flip a coin, whatever you agree on.

page 6 of the tournament policy has it

3.3 Determining Who Plays First

At the start of each match, before the beginning of the first game, players must use a
random method, such as flipping a coin or rolling dice, to determine who plays first. For
each subsequent game in a match, the player who lost the previous game chooses which
player goes first. In the case of a game draw, the player who chose who played first the
previous game chooses who will play first in the next game.

Players who do not specify who they chose to play first before looking at their opening
hand are assumed to have chosen themselves to play first.

We always role two dices and then the one who rolls highest gets to choose who goes first (although 99 % of the time they choose themselves to go first - but there is that surprising 1 % that lets the other one go first..).
