Hello all,

You know those situations when you get super excited about something and then go and do something out of passion but it turns out you chewed off way more than you can handle?

Well that is what happened to me with this game. I am so excited about it that I started searching for a wiki and noticed that (not surprisingly) there wasn't one. So a quick google search later I found Wikia where you can set up wikis for free. I said to myself, oh how hard can it be to set up a wiki right? Well it turns out that, at least for me, it is very hard. :)

I want the wiki to look nice and be useful and I simply don't have the know-how or time to get it to the place it deserves to be at the moment.

So, with all that said, I am hoping to find someone (or more than one) that would be willing to help get the wiki in shape. I am assuming I am able to give admin type rights to another person so they can do all the things I can do.

You can find the wiki here: http://hextcg.wikia.com/

Please let me know if you can help.

Cheers!

I need to get some other stuff done first, but I'll try to look into it and lend you hand, mate. We need a wiki and while I was going to start one on my own, it doesn't make sense to split our efforts, since a joined community is something much more valuable than a lot of individualists. So as soon as I can, I'll join you on the wiki :)

Thanks Storm and Joon.

Storm, the wiki is currently pretty much empty so we could still jump over to your solution. Judging from the guild website you set up very quickly, you know what you are doing. :)

Wikia is ok for a free service but the ads are kind of annoying. However, if you feel that you are getting too much on your plate, we can stay with the wikia site. :)

Cheers!

Not sure what exactly you want on the wiki, but I'm going through and adding spoilered cards. Probably won't be necessary once there's a client at release, but at least it gives us an easy way to find them without owning the game.

I wasn't actually sure yet, if I planned on opening a wiki or stay on the track I'm normally taking, which is to include all informations on a site of my own. Right now I'm improving the content of our guildpage here:

https://simply-gaming.com/hex/ut/

As you can see, I did include all Kickstarter Updates and Card Previews by now. Need to polish everything, but besides that I would only need to add some sort of FAQ-Section to have a reasonable foundation, I guess.

As we won't have a client for 4 long months this should be supre helpful. Thanks!

Well, I'm not sure that I want to do all of this work twice.

Should Utopian Chaos and the wiki be collaborating here? I like the idea of a wiki that doesn't require someone to go through a guild page, but this should be figured out pretty soon.

So far the Utopian Chaos page has pictures, which is nice, but the wiki has links between related cards that have been updated. Both systems could be improved.

Should I continue with what I've been doing? I'll be taking a break for an hour for dinner, but I don't mind continuing when I'm back.

I absolutely think UC and the Wiki should colaborate! This is your project Rak, you can make the final call on what you want it to be, but I know I and all the other guildies will help contribute. This is exactly what I was thinking of when I said I wanted guildies to be socially minded! (Too bad I didnt think of the idea myself :P)

Whatever you decide, and whatever you need, im behind you!

I can already see this game is going to have an awesome community! ;)

@Sajo You could add information about the different "factions" (blood, ruby, etc) and what their play styles are. Not sure if there is enough info about that yet but for example Wild seems to be all about hordes of smaller troops used to overrun your opponent. Stuff like that. Even if its only little info we can keep updating it as we get more info.

I am not sure what I could do to help you guys with the Wiki but I will help whenever I can.

Thanks for offering! What a wiki is really great at is consolidating all the info out there that has been posted on comments, twitter, Facebook etc so for example you could try to gather all the unfit we have so far on draft tournaments or something similar. :)

Thanks again everyone offering to help!

Haven't done wikis before (aside from reading), but I'll help out when I can.

Thanks for setting up a wiki. I'm sure it will be a great resource for all players.

I've gone through and added all the cards from the website, but haven't done kickstarter cards or cards shown in the play demo movie yet.
Good to see Rapkannibale adding images to some of my entries and inputting entries of his own!

To avoid confusion/duplicate work, I thought it might be a good idea to have a comprehensive list of all the cards added so far. This is where we're at: http://hextcg.wikia.com/wiki/Card_List Note that there's some confusion over RED/ORANGE with regards to rarity, so that hasn't been sorted out yet.

As people make new sections, please add links under the Table of Contents on the main page.

Awesome work mauvebutterfly! I was looking at the RED/ORANGE as well and I think RED is legendary and ORANGE is actually alternate art or promo or something similar. But lets try to get confirmation on that. :)

There was confusion on another thread, but that's what I was going with.
I think the confusion was caused by alternate art cards being shown as Orange rarity.

Thanks for helping out Rapkannibale!

I have to go to bed now, but if you ever want to discuss formatting issues or any ideas relating to the wiki with me I guess we can try using the wiki chat function.

Alternatively, just make a thread about formatting or whatever and link it on the main page.

One thing I will say is that I've been deliberately creating "stub pages" when a card is referenced by another card, so that everything will be easy to find later.
Example:
http://hextcg.wikia.com/wiki/Te%27talca,_Orc_Gladiator
http://hextcg.wikia.com/wiki/Gore_Feast_of_Kog%27Tepetl
This way everything is already in place.

I've also tried to include links going back to all cards that mention them. For example the Battle Hopper: http://hextcg.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_Hopper

I should probably make a formatting page on the wiki when I have a chance tomorrow now that I think about it.

Luckily the friendly neighborhood wiki hero that created the templates was around and that should help a lot.

I also added pages for all the known keywords so far (like Speed and Flight) but am currently just posting assumptions of what they will do mechanically as comments on the respective pages. If anyone want to contribute and has more info on those please do.

Cheers!

I had no experience at all with a wiki before doing this, and it really wasn't that hard to get started. Now that there's a good number of things already posted, it's easier to contribute. Feel free to fix up formatting or add images or equipment to anything you see missing. If a card mentions another card, but there isn't a link between the two, add in the link.

If you want to add new cards, search for 'card' under template, and two options will show up. The first is for troops, and the second is for all other cards.

Rapkannibale

Hey mauve, do you know if you can link to other pages somehow with text in the templates? I like the templates but I couldn't figure out how to link to other pages from within the template which kinda sucks.

mauvebutterfly
05-15-2013, 02:01 AM
Just write the link in square brackets. Just make sure to spell it right.

Example:

Create a [[Battle Hopper]].

Checked the wiki, and see that you already got it. At least the secret's here for other people to see ;)

Hey guys. Lots of work going on in the Wikia and I'm proud to be a part of it. :P

I've added a small change to the templates which was the addition of "Card Legality." You can add the variable "legality" to the source to signify where the card can be played at. It has two values, 1 which sets it to "Player vs. Environment Only", or 2 which sets it to "Player vs. Player Only." If the variable is not equal to 1 or 2, it will automatically display both "Player vs. Player" and "Player vs. Environment."

Perfect! This was driving me crazy earlier. Now the kickstarter exclusive promos can go up there without being listed as Player vs. Player playable.

Hey there, guys, good job so far. I've been working on a couple of wikis in my time, but I don't have as much time as I'd like to work on this one right now. Still, I have a good habit when dealing with new games of always checking out every bit of info available and skimming it down in search of new details, so I got some screenshots of cards that have only been shown in the videos. I don't know if they're good enough to be uploaded to the wiki, but that's up to you to decide.
Aggressive War Hulk (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/AggressiveWarHulk_zps1add3e06.png)
Burn (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/Burn_zpse32cabf3.png)
Burn to the Ground (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/BurntotheGround_zps50962f5f.png)
Charge Bot (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/ChargeBot_zpscfa91012.png)
Corrupt Harvester (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/CorruptHarvester_zps7df8e59a.png)
Glimmerglen Witch (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/GlimmerglenWitch_zps83c1f775.png)
Inferno (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/Inferno_zps07704f06.png)
Nuts and Bolts (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/NutsandBolts_zpsd73c5c16.png)
Rampaging Tarasque (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/RampagingTarasque_zps20645efd.png)
Shamed Gladiator (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/ShamedGladiator_zpsdb548f82.png)
Spirit Dance (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/SpiritDance_zps9305de7b.png)
Zodiac Shaman (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/ZodiacShaman_zps6a0fe5a6.png)

And these screenshots have lots of new cards, but they're a bit too small to make out. Still, you can have them, just in case. I think I see an uncommon 2/2 Orc that costs 1 Blood and deals 1 damage to you each turn. Carnophage, hooray!
Stuff 1 (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/Stuff1_zpsb23f47e7.png)
Stuff 2 (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/Stuff2_zpsab5f9606.png)
Stuff 3 (http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa248/SingerOfW/Stuff3_zps5d7d3433.png)

And this is just a heads-up for you guys to get the cards from here:

Shamed Gladiator and Spirit Dance seem like they are wrong template wise (Shamed Gladiator has two different templates for rage, and 2 of the Spirit Dance equipment refer to "this troop" when it's a basic action), as well as Rampaging Tarasque has been spoiled elsewhere with a different revision (no juggernaught ability and 8/1 instead of 10/1).

The set still isn't at the stage where it's ready for release. I'm sure they have more important things to do than scour the set for tempting inconsistencies. No doubt they'll all be fixed before release.

Yeah, and Tarasque also has two Speed keywords, and Sabotage is called Booby Trapped. Cards will most probably change, but the same is true for all the previews we've been seeing so far.

Thanks a lot of the links. Some of them are different versions of the cards already on the wiki, so until we know which version is final, I'll just upload the alternate versions onto the appropriate pages for ease of reference and access. Your work is muchly appreciated ^^

The wiki still needs more PvE information. I really want to add it But I really dislike the Wikia approach, is there any way to make the editor more like a mediawiki editor?

If I can get a more mediawiki like editor, I can get some better stuff going. This wiki needs communities!

Never mind, figured it out...

I'll see if I can take the front page on. I also did the frontpage of http://solforgewiki.forgewatch.com/

Granted, it's not the prettiest, but it's better than what HexTCG currently has. Though this did require admin rights. It remains to be seen if the same approach works, since SolforgeWiki uses a complete MediaWiki, it depends on what hextcg wiki uses. But I'm fairly certain I can create something similar, if need be.

I'm not gonna lie. The current HexWiki front page is pretty awful. It's also difficult to navigate at the moment if you aren't using the search feature to find details on a card that you have the title for. There are a lot of unlisted cards in the wiki that aren't linked anywhere as far as I can tell. Go nuts. Anything you do can only be an improvement.

Someone please tell CZE to stop spoiling new cards so that I can get around to cleaning up the tables and working on some useful functionality. Nobody here wants to see any new cards for a couple of days, right?
