In the draft tournament the entry fee is 3 booster pack and $1.
Does the booster pack have to be all the same set or can you mix them?
If they are mix, is there an option to select only certain set? for instance only set 2 or set 3 booster pack allowed.

A draft is usually any set that is in cycle, so as long as the set is still available you should be able to pick from any set that you want for your boosters once we have multiple sets out.

Though there may be the occasional draft that is specific or limited to which sets you can choose from, like a pre-release draft that is only set 2.

And there are the block drafts, where a 3 set block is represented as 1 pack from each set. This is common as you get into the 3rd set of a block.

You can only use your boosters for a draft tournament that uses that set of cards.

Early on, that will be all Set 1. Later, they might have mix-and-match as well as legacy drafts to go along with the "current set only" format.

What you bring in is what you'll open.

They haven't announced (that I'm aware of) if they are planning on retiring sets at any point have they?

And since this is a digital game, they could always accept any set of booster pack but use the current set for the drafts (for example, even if the draft is sets 4-6 only they could theoretically accept a set 1 booster for the entry and transform it into a 4-6 for drafting purposes)

It has not been announced, no. If they follow form it will happen. It has to happen.

At a minimum, even if they don't disallow the sets in draft they'll have to stop selling them eventually. Otherwise the original sets becomes near worthless as if you want a card there's always an infinite number of boosters you can buy to get it.

I think they said that blocks are going to be 2 sets

3 sets per block. Booster draft tournaments will be set 1 x 3, during set 2... Likely 2/1; during set 3 1/1/1. Set 4 will be 3x again.

Whether they do legacy booster drafts or not is a good question, but likely most people will queue up for the new sets.
