As the title says, will there be a text box and voice chatting options available for communicating during matches?

Text chat would be pretty much necessary, especially in 2v2 or larger matches where people have to coordinate, and optional in-game voice chat (that you can turn off in case anyone likes to grief or something) would be a cool addition.

I believe I've seen text chat in a gameplay video before, it's a safe bet to expect that.

tons of voice options out there instead of them trying to add on in themselves, look at wow they added one and it still is never used. myself having mumble and vent installed on my PC i will prob use those.

if you mean for voice chat with the random person you are playing against not sure

That's true. Voice chat for raids would be fun, although personally I'm using an offsite voice option. Not sure the demand is there for voice in random PvP.

Well, I was talking more for the random opponent thing, can't really set voice up for that.

Voice chat in pvp usually leads to a bad community in my opinion.

god knows you should never talk to the person you are playing with. /s

Independent voice aps are difficult for pugs. Also vent and ipads....i dont think that works. In ap voice chat could take advantage of the ipads built in mike.

You can't filter voice, it would have to be an option. And if it was available versus opponents I think the majority of people would end up turning it off.

Does no one ever talk to people in local tournaments? I mean, these are social games. As long as you can set it to off, I don't see why anyone is objecting to this. Especially if we get tablet version which will not be running vent.

i wasnt objecting to it just saying there are other options. why wont tablets be able to run vent? i know people in my guild in WOW that run vent off their phones so if a phone can run it why couldnt a tablet?

There are no other options for talking to your opponent. No one is going to log into your vent server for the 1-2 games you are set to play against each other with.

lazybum, vent doesnt exist for the ipad. There is a teamspeak ap, but it has iffy reviews and is not free.

Voice chat has always been something difficult to add into game play and it generally never works out with the exception to steam products and xbox console games. Even WoW tried voice chat and majority of people ended up using 3rd party clients instead.

Even when voice chat does work and is clear this is generally what comes out in public play:
50% never used
20% random rabble about things and people shouting meme one liners
20% offensive banter/spam
10% valid communication

I would love to have a fully working chat system for games, especially games I play with my friends, but the alternatives (vent/mumble/skype) are great.

How many people would here would be upset if at the end of a game the person said "ez" and left?

68% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

+1 for text chat. Guild voice chat would be great. After playing HON for a few years I agree voice chat with your opponent can make for a toxic environment. I wouldn't mind it if you could just turn it off though.

If there is voice chat you will find out more about your mother's social life than you would prefer.

No thanks to voice chat between randoms.
Maybe only between guildies and friends on your friends list.
