During Match 1: The following was stated in the Chat:

Hextcg: I spoke to our engineers today and I can say that we will support the Steam API

Supporting the API just means it'll mesh with the overlay by design instead of the default overlay you get for opening a non-Steam program via Steam, or that some game functions can be done through Steam instead of externally (logins and such).

That is awesome. But I hope they dont make it steam required like Skyrim did.

If there's tablet support, I doubt they'll make Steam necessary to run Hex.

Also: Hurrah!

Supporting the Steam API is not the same as being sold on Steam, bud.

Could you tell us the difference between Steam API and being sold on Steam? Not in my area of interest so I don't know.

Well, there's:

https://partner.steamgames.com/documentation/api

and:

https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Steam_Web_API

and:

http://steamcommunity.com/dev

Afaik, it could just be used for logging in with your Steam account and nothing else.

Thanks, that clears it up for me.

Sorry folks, My first experience (other than horror stories) with Steam was the Skyrim Steam requirement, and I think that is a crap experience. Hence my question/concern. Sheesh.

The game doesn't need Steam support at all, but it's good that everyone whining, er asking for it will have it.

I hope it supports steams TCG in an ironically amazing way

Steam support is nice, as long as it's just available and not required.

People want it on Steam because of the huge audience the game will be exposed to.

Steam support is great. It makes more people play the game.

Can we get this thread renamed? It's extremely misleading. :P

This and this again. The more people playing Hex the better for Crypto and the better for me!*

*Especially with my kickstarter rewards!

This thread was totally misinterpreted.
I think you can actually change the thread title, but it might not stick. Go to advanced edit.

No problem then! Hopefully I didn't come off as snarky. <3
If HEX were sold on Steam, I think our community would grow logarithmically.

Logarithmically is literally the slowest growth rate possible...

Not true. A logarithmic curve is more steep than an exponential curve at first, and then becomes less. ;)

Hopefully this won't be yet another surprise forced Steam integration kicking Kickstarters in the teeth. I know many of you love being forced to load Steam first in order to play any games, but the Steam client is slow and glitchy on my machine and I don't like using it. It takes over 2 minutes to even start up and my machine isn't even old.

Most F2P (and MMOs in general) on Steam offer a client outside of Steam as well, so that shouldn't be an issue. Wasn't home for the cast so I don't know what exactly they mean by "support the Steam API," but any potential Steam integration that'll get more eyes on Hex is a plus in my book.

Have it avaible at steam is a good thing. Enforcing the use of Steam means I'm out. I will never ever use that slow buggy piece of trash software again ;)

Same here, but I like steam because it lets me easily keep in contact with friends/groups and doesn't cause as many problems as x-fire/Raptr does.

Steam isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. Anymore I quite enjoy it. I'll probably be using it myself.

When steam first came out i hated it with every inch of my body - i was disgusted by it.
Well and many years later i buy and play alot of games over steam and i am actually happy with it.

Steam cloud though is still something i dont like. So yay for steam support ^.^ brings more people to play against into the game ^.^
