View Full Version : Only 12 to 18 Legendaries in Set 1?

So during the Live Q&A Cory mentioned that there are about 12 to 18 legendaries in Set 1. Now he wasn't too sure about the number, but I am thinking he was guessing on the low end since we already have more than that spoiled on hextcg.gamepedia.com.

Either way, it seems like the number of legendaries is relatively low, which is good for people wanting to get a full playset of every card. :)

What are your thoughts? You expected more, less, about this many?

I havent checked up gamepedia but I think he meaned PvP legendarys only

I was expecting around 5% of cards to be Legendary. Last I heard the first PvP set was floating around ~360 cards so 18 would work perfectly from my guess.

Also remember only 11 of the Legendaries on the Wiki are PvP, the rest are PvE :)

Somewhere between 12-18 is definitely where I'm comfy... more than 18 definitely feels like too many though.

Hopefully it's not too many - my lofty ambition is to be able to collect my way to full 4x playsets of each set, so the more legendaries there are the harder that gets. >.<

Using Magic as a comparison, Magic 2013 had 15 mythics out of 249 cards, for 6% of cards being mythic. If I'm not mistaken, set 1 has 366 cards, so if it's the same strike rate it'll be about 22 legendaries. Which would be a nice amount IMO. Of course Magic and Hex aren't the same game, but Hex has adopting many things other games have done right, and I'm pretty comfortable with the Magic mythic:non-mythic ratio myself.

Yes, I guess if he meant PvP only then it would totally make sense.

I have no problem with lots of legendaries in PvE... sort of. Random 'world drops' (ie. legendaries that could drop from any encounter) would be a nightmare, but if legendary X is limited to a set of encounters, so you could farm those encounters in particular if you were looking for that encounter or card - I'd be ok with that.

Having said that, I will admit that world drop legendaries might be warranted in the game. It'd provide a high value item for the auction house, and would probably be good for the market.

Woot! Some actual numbers.

That means of the breakdowns I did in this thread (http://forums.cryptozoic.com/showthread.php?t=24636), assuming 50 rares and 15 legendaries might have been a fair model. Here's where 95% of people would lie only from opening boosters alone. Mind you, a lot of us are better off than this because I'm not accounting for starter decks, AA cards, and the one assured primal pack for Knight and above.

20 Boosters: Between 9 and 27 distinct rares, 0 to 7 distinct legendaries. Four+ copies of none.

40 Boosters: Between 22 and 42 distinct rares, 2 to 10 distinct legendaries. Four+ copies of at most 1 distinct rare and no legendaries.

60 Boosters: Between 33 and 53 distinct rares, 4 to 12 distinct legendaries. Four+ copies of at most 2 distinct rares and 1 legendary (none likely).

100 Boosters: Between 49 and 67 distinct rares, 7 to 14 distinct legendaries. Four+ copies of at most 7 distinct rares and 2 legendaries.

150 Boosters: Between 61 and 75 distinct rares, 10 to 15 distinct legendaries. Four+ copies of 3-17 distinct rares and at most 5 distinct legendaries.

1 in 10 rares is replaced by a legendary
primal packs have a 1% chance of occurring
of 350 card, 50 are rare and 15 are legendary
If anyone has another set of assumptions they'd like me to model, just let me know!

How can you tell a "legendary" for a normal rare?

Red vs Blue

It always seems to come down to this doesn't it.

I see what you did there

I think it's at a great place number wise, not too many so they'll actually feel legendary.

So were probably looking at 80-100 rares if WoW TCG is any kind of guide. Around 5:1 rare:epic(legendary) has been their thing for a while.

Haha... great on several levels. +X internet points to you, good sir. :)
