Hi all,

Just posted my first Hex article and would love to get some feedback.

You can find the article here: http://www.utopianchaos.com/the-illusion-of-symmetry/

I am biased of course, but I think it's a great article. I believe Hex will attract, and already has, people who are new to this style of game. Concepts that seem simple to experienced players are not so at all to newcomers, and you did a good job explaining how a cards effectiveness goes beyond the words printed on it. When to play cards, and equally important, when not to play cards, is one key difference between being a average player and being a great player.

Nice article, reminds me of the Mtg card that had me baffled for the longest time, Balance. Crazy OP.

Nice article. Well thought out.

I do just want to point one thing out, though, which a lot of people have missed in looking at the spoiled cards: Emberspire Witch does not have swift strike. If you notice that the text is in green, that means the card has been "permanently modified" during a match to add the effect (much like her power is not actually 3, that has also been boosted). Most likely the screenshot that we got of this card for the various spoiler sites was taken from a match that was part of an Inspire-themed deck, hence the boosts (I'm positive there is a card that Inspires Swift Strike, but can't remember which it is off the top of my head).

There has yet to be a swift strike Inspiration card revealed.

Cool article, as I completely forgot that these symmetrical effects could be potentially confusing.

There are Inspire troops for Speed and Steadfast, but not Swiftstrike (that we know of), I think. The popular reasoning behind the green text there is that it's simply a bug, and it's supposed to be white, but I guess we won't really know for sure for a while!

Anyway, nice article. I certainly made similar assumptions about those kinds of cards when I first started playing TCGs, so it's definitely something worth pointing out.

One thing I think would be a great followup is some of the more hard to use symmetrical cards. A little experience will tell you you can turn a creatureless board to your advantage, but something more basic, like destroy all lands/manaflare is harder to see. How do I avoid using lands?

Great article, Rapkannibale! It contained some good information for new players, and was well written; so it should still be an enjoyable read even for more experienced players.

Awesome Article :D

I do think it's funny in a way too that emberspire also completely shuts out the Dimmid champion.

For anyone interested in Emberspire Witch, you can see it in play at 11:27 in this twitch video: http://www.twitch.tv/hextcg/b/412717902

There's nothing in play that could give it swiftstrike, and you can see the stats change as it's being cast. It's pretty clearly a 2/2 swiftstrike.

Dimmid (http://hex.potion-of-wit.com/card.php?c=241) is also intresting in the fact that you can Target ANY troop, now if we have 2v2/3v3 and other teams Matches in PVP this can be quite intresting, and in future set we might have sumthing that make Lifegain become Lifeloss. Assumptions Assumtions!

I probably should have quoted on my post. I was speaking more to the confusion on whether the database stats were correct in game.

Emberspire Witch does not have swift strike.

I would have referenced the database, but the video makes it clear that the swift strike is on the card itself, and wasn't added during play and screen capped afterwards.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and feedback! It could definitely be that the witch ends up not having swiftstrike but for the moment i am going with the theory that it is a bug. I'll ask Ben Stoll on Facebook see if he finds the time to respond. :)

As more proof that the green text is likely a bug. Here's Phoenix Guard Aeronaut:

It's flight text is in green, but I don't think anyone could mistake this card for NOT having flight.

However, I do question Rage Monger "speed" which is white. I've seen a couple streams where Ben "sets up" the Rage Monger for the next turns attack (and lots of times coming out with Lord Alexandar or Rage Howler to give it Speed).

But I guess this is off topic.

Great article. I remember when I learned to love Armageddon in my White Weenie deck. :)

Great job Rap! For me it was Contract from Below.

What?!?!? Why would I EVER want to play another ante?!?!?

Now I look back and realized I should have run that every time.

Got confirmation from Ben Stoll. Emberspire Witch does in fact have Swiftstrike. :)

Hopefully that green text thing will be fixed before they reveal more cards. :)
