View Full Version : 20 or 25 starting life?

Just saw in one of the e3 interviews, they were starting with 25 life not 20.

Maybe the footage was just old? Seeing as the announcement last week showed all the hero cards with 20hp.

What do you think starting life should be?

They stated somewhere after the E3 interview that the gameplay footage was old. 20 life is a good number IMO.

Look at the most recent article on the PVP champions. They all have 20 at the lower right hand corner. Which suggests that 20 is the starting life total, and also ties that to the champion and not the game. There are unlikely to be PVP champions with different life totals, but it is very possible that a PVE one will be different.

I tend to like slightly longer games so instinctively favour 25 but I trust they iterated on various values and 20 was the most successful.

I like 20 life.

Even with 20 life the matches go on for 30+ minutes.

Seems like a good number.

I wish they used 21 health instead...

Judging by wowtcg, it doesn't seem entirely impossible to have heroes with different starting health totals (maybe in the future?)

I hope not.

I think 20 is the sweet spot, it allows for cards to be more stale, and keep them from being OP'd.

Unless my memory is failing me pretty badly, the PvE Merc angel has a conditional higher starting life (if you are on your last attempt, you start at 30.)

I think this is a good example of how and when it will happen. PvE most likely, or custom rules games as a possibility, and possibly with Mercs or powered up Champions made by players.

If that were to happen, I would hope that their abilities would make up for it, so they actually play a part in the game. If not, then no one would use them. This is obvious, but I felt I needed to just throw this out there.

I'm for no life points in general. Everyone draws until his last card in deck and then you end the game and the player who dealt most damage won.

I think a starting life of 21 would be amusing if only to say, "We're not Magic!" :p

Nice format this would make; the drowsiness marathon; last man awake wins :P

Or we harness the power of this being a computerized TCG and it only takes seconds as the AI tells us who won.

There would still be player interaction and decision making involved, as you still play the game. It's just a different format. But was a joke anyway. People here don't get that, I understand that. They also make arguments for booster prices of 0.50$ and begging for a smartphone version of the game on this forum.

I played a TCG once where your deck was effectively your life pool, as you took damage you lost cards, whoever ran out of cards first loses.

Considering DoTP2014 works fine on my smartphone, and is built for a tablet, it isn't an unreasonable request to have it work on smartphones - most tablet apps work with poor resolution, crypto could just do some inventive scaling and it should work (on powerful enough phones, of course).

I have a very good phone, and see no reason to get a weaker tablet to play it. I will be satisfied if they let me try at least - no locking off certain platforms unless it is proven to not work. It is a fairly small request, compared to building it for tablets in the first place.

Sorry for going off topic, just felt it was relevant in context.
