View Full Version : A little underwhelmed by the last 2 updates

I'm still very excited and something is better than nothing...but I greedily wish there was more. Two straight weeks of just hero card previews with no commentary. Hero cards are important but to me they're the least interesting type of card. I know not every week can be a deluge of information but I wish these were more substantial. Why can't it just be September already *sigh*.

I've thought the last 2 weeks of updates have been great, personally. We've got to see all the Champions now, and a bunch of really cool art to boot. Commentary is the communities job :)
(Worth noting that a Purple said that card spoilers will continue next week, so there's that to look forward to.)

I'm enjoying it.

Champion selection is pretty important and it's great to get a sense of what they are going for. Prior to these last two updates I don't think we had a really good idea if we were going to be building a deck around a champion or taking a champion based on the deck we build! (If that makes sense)

They answered that question pretty definitively in my book which helps fully open the door to deck construction.

I personally feel content of what we are receiving so far...champions will definately be an important part in deckbuilding and its nice that we now have them all previewed, so that we can better build decks and speculate. Vennen and bunnies also look really awesome.I would say that my appetite for more is nothing less but increased. Also expect less to receive more :)

We've gotten to see all the champions. 10 new cards a week is pretty good.

Will they have shown the whole set if they give us 10 new cards every Friday until alpha starts?

I believe they did quite well. 1) they addressed a current thread about bunny art and 2) we saw all the champions. It's not like the KS where where we are continually getting more product. I guess using that as a comparison--it's disappointing. However, I believe they did a great job.

Remember also that they must pace themselves. They need new weekly content to last us until alpha...

Let's hope so. What mtg usually does, is to keep previewing cards a few at a time, till one week before the set is released. At this point everything left is also revealed. If hex follows this pattern, and if we are allowed to know each card at alpha, then expect previews till the end of August, and the whole set one week before alpha starts.

Including PVE cards they have 400+ cards to reveal still. They could reveal 40+ cards a week and have enough content to last until alpha.

402+ if you count the collector's tier alt art cards that I can't wait to see!

I actually like the massive art dumps without excessive commentary. Imagine reading a comic or flipping through an art book (or even viewing a gallery) with paragraph upon paragraph of text hovering around the art.

I am liking the aesthetic of the Shin'hare as well. Despite the overt samurai theme, they have some middle eastern/indian flavor as well, especially in the spellcasters, the masks, and the female garb.

I hope they don't spoil PVE cards at all. I'd like those to be a surprise.

They 'revealed' a couple of cards, technically all they revealed was the name and the art.

I would like to note that it is possible, that the name of the art may not end up the same as the card it is used for.

Draconic Awe (http://hextcg.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/DraconicAwe.jpg)

From the name and art it most likely is an Action.

Onslaught (http://hextcg.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Onslaught.jpg)

Could be an Action, but I think it will end up a constant.

Shin'hare High Born (http://hextcg.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ShinhareHighBorn.jpg)

Troop. I can see this being a 4-5 cost shin'hare, we haven't seen Shin'hare around that cost other than Ritualist of the Spring Litter.

Underworld Malice (http://hextcg.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/UnderworldMalice.jpg)

This seems like an Action to me. Before anyone mentions Bucktooth Commander, that picture is a placeholder.

Monika'chin (http://hextcg.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Monikachin.jpg)

*Edit* confirmed champion.

I understand that, people like definitive previews, so they can theory craft with decks, and these picture will give them no joy, but I feel it is better to have something to guess at then nothing at all.

Monika'shin was confirmed as an Underworld PvP champion last week.

Edit: What he was going to say.

I thought they were pretty sick. Seeing the champions was nice. The Shin'hare lore/art was awesome though. Makes me see them less as stupid bunnies and more as badasses. They're more similar to goblins than anything IMO

I enjoyed both updates too. Agree with Stok3d that they need to keep things back, but they also need to keep the suspense. With the awesome work of members of clan black blade porting all the hex cards to magicworkstation and the like. If all the cards are revealed to quickly the meta will be defined before alpha.

Just wanted to chime in to tell the OP to suck on a tailpipe.

I do understand the OP they were abit underwelming. However, that is the nature of champions; they sort of add an extra kick to your deck and aside from one or two they wont really be the center piece of your deck, but just something extra to do with your charge resource.

I think it would be cool if they had champions with different amounts of health and charge abilities that reflected this. However i doubt we'd see anything like this until later sets.

That's interesting, I'd have never occurred to me that those might actually be pieces of card art, I figured they were just concept pieces. They would all make pretty cool cards though, conceptually.

Also, regarding card spoilers, they've set they will reveal the entire set shortly before alpha, so I suspect they will reveal a small number of cards in their weekly updates from now on, and then give us the rest in the full list. Not sure where PvE cards stand in there, as I don't know if they are technically part of set 1.

After all these PVP champ previews, I would like to see another PVE champ tree (we've seen a bit of Warrior, at least a very early stage) so we could do a comparison of the PVP champs to their customizable PVE counterparts. Mages, in PVP, all require 2 threshold, and have a temporary summon, artifact-based burn, and granting permanent Flight as their abilities. What does this say, if anything, about PVE mages?

for me, the updates are enough to keep me satisfied, i want more but i prefer them to keep working on the game instead of spending more time with the updates
