View Full Version : Friday Night Hex - Main Thread

07-26-2013, 05:49 PM
Going to try to keep this thread updated with the latest FNH videos - when the game releases, I'm considering transitioning it into a proper podcast with other youtubers/streamers (opinions on it welcome). When I launch contests, this will be the primary thread for it as well.

Just released another episode yesterday - this time covering Sapphire's latests reveals, as well as a few other cards I find interesting and how I think they'll sit in the early metagame...

Friday Night Hex #5 - Star Sapphire:

08-04-2013, 11:34 AM
I've had a number of requests to make the episodes shorter...

I'm going to finish out the '5 cards per color' run, then go onto topics, curious whether you all prefer 10, 15, or 20 minute 'episodes'?

Admittedly, if it evolves into a proper podcast post-release, it'll probably change to hour long episodes...but yea, that's for the future lol.

(also contemplating doing single-card roundups and going straight to topic-oriented Friday Night Hex episodes).

Opinions and responses welcome :D

I haven't gotten around to watching this yet to be honest - I haven't found 30 minutes to do so, so maybe 30 minutes is a bit long, especially if you're only talking about 5 cards. Still, it's your video, and if you want it to be 30 minutes long, then that's definitely what you should do!

Longer episodes will be more bearable when you have a game in your hand and people can watch you play. I purposely went with a 1 minute format because other 30 minute or longer formats out there felt really long. (Not to say that my card reviews aren't boring either, they are just too short for people to tell :p)

First off, I enjoy your content. That is good, so keep it up.

But I will agree with you that longer episodes are much better suited for the podcast format. I could listen to people talk about Hex nearly all day while at work. But I cannot spend too much time actually watching a video.

Latest episode (sorry, I was tired while recording, so I get rambly lol)

As an aside:
- I am looking at different options for hosting mp3s of the audio (if there are any other formats you would like, give me a yell and I'll see if I can create/host them)

- Card evals are being moved to a series called "House of Cards" - a sample episode will be up later today. These will be organized on a page in the future for easier reference. Should I consider making just mp3s of these as well? I will be doing a batch recording next week for a number of episodes on this, and will release them in my empty time slots.

First "House of Cards" episode for those wondering:

I will likely make a separate thread for these when I have them on a regular release schedule.

08-11-2013, 09:16 AM
That's good stuff! How often are you planning on doing House of Cards?

08-11-2013, 03:51 PM
When I get the chance to record more of them - daily.

Still having upload issues...

Latest episode though (chose a short topic, to try and make sure it uploads on time):

Sorry for no episode this past friday, currently having some pretty nasty connection issues, will be contacting ISP on Monday (when support gets back in the office)

09-14-2013, 07:25 AM
http://youtu.be/URRztcw5DSg - Episode 8: Format Choices (Pros/Cons) & Future of FNH (FNH will be more of a contest/tournament/etc. show after Hex launches, with the current "podcastish" stuff moving to a different series name, but continuing on, and I will be trying to get cohosts, if it gets big enough, it will also start being streamed)

MP3 versions for download/streaming? Coming soon.

Going to be splitting this into 2 series:

Friday Night Hex is going to focus on Hex news/tournaments/contests/etc. - where "Deck Tech" will take over the technical side of things...

I'm contemplating making a 'generic TCG' to use for demonstrations in Deck Tech... it's either that or use Hex for displays (though it does lack the ability to be easily changed to demonstrate things that are outside hex mechanics :P - so we'll see how I do that)

Deck Tech:

10-03-2013, 09:06 AM
Invitation to join the "Deck Tech" series - for those who are interested in contributing to a TCG podcast series.

After a given amount of time for submissions, I will also approach some other specific commentators to see if they want to participate - but I am actually very interested in seeing if we have any 'diamonds in the rough' before going after those actively pursuing their own content in parallel.
