Just posted an article on "Weaponize", a proposed mechanic that I started thinking about at GenCon... http://www.thehexvault.com/blog/2013/08/20/card-mechanics-weaponize/

It's the inaugural article in a series we'll be doing called "Card Mechanics". Myself or a guest contributor will be covering Hex mechanics (existing or proposed) in a series of articles that you can expect to see weekly on Hex Vault.

For this first article, I've decided to talk about a proposed mechanic ("Weaponize") rather than one we already know about. Who knows, this mechanic may already exist but hasn't been spoiled, or may be in Cryptozoic's plan for Set 2 or Set 3, but I have no knowledge of it's existence other than an idea I chatted about at GenCon with a couple of other backers. Maybe I'll even try to make this idea the basis for my "Design a Card" reward...

Damn dude, you're just cranking it out, I need to stop slacking and get stuff churned out myself. Have two quick vids in progress already. I particularly like the "explosives specialist" picturing the dwarves turning their loyal worker bots into kamikaze drones is pretty awesome.

I was inspired by GenCon, all of the Hex fans I met there, and the response from the GenCon coverage - it's worth it when you know people are reading/listening to/watching your content.

Of course, now the GenCon thread in General has come and gone and we'll go back to a much smaller audience here... Such is life...

I like this idea, and fits Hex perfectly, being digital :D

I wish I knew that! My last like 4 posts about articles here haven't got a single response (including one in which I specifically asked for feedback) and according to my traffic logs I'm getting basically zero traffic from these forums. I have a few other sources of traffic but the forums certainly isn't one of them!

Anyway I really like the Weaponize idea, though I wonder if it should be reduced in complexity a little as you actually have a lot of different effects going on there. My initial thoughts are that it should either be the "Remove defensive and +1 attack permanently" or the Incendiary thing, which I think would work pretty well.

Does this even need a term? Couldn't they just say "Remove the keyword defensive on target creature"? I'm not sure if the mechanic has any place in the game given the current cards. There are not that many cards with the keyword defensive and it is kind of a waste to spend a card to remove it from any of the current creatures. I just don't see the point. You are removing something that is normally interesting about a troop and making it like every other troop.

A few points:

Not necessarily a Keyword - there are multiple proposed ways of getting the same general functionality
It's very clearly not just about removing "Defensive" in most cases - the impacted troops get a moment of attacking/exploding glory and then die
I like the flavor of it - it just seems like something Entrath's dwarves would do...

nice thought on worker bot upgrades!

there are much easier ways to word all of this though and to add more flavour without new keywords.

"worker bots you control lose and cant gain defensive" is the fastest fix.

and then you could have such cards as:

overcharger

artfiact

cost 3

worker bots you control gain/have destroy this troop: deal 2 damage to target champion or troop.

program override: aggression

constant

4 cost 2 saphire threshold

worker bots you control get +1/+1.

worker bots you control lose and cant gain defensive.

I think it would be more interesting if it was a quick action that attached an explosive to a blocked troop instead of one before combat to remove defensive. But whatever........ Removing defensive just seems like something extra to attach to it.

The whole Defensive keyword seems out-of-character for the racial description of dwarves, anyway.

I think the ideas regarding self-destruction are more along the Lore lines.
