View Full Version : Server eating dirt

I think we've found whatever the stress point is on the current hardware.

No games this evening are making it past three turns before freezing up. Priority not passing or not even getting into the full card draw.

Indeed, I can't even get past the first turn right now...tried several Challenge PvP games, and a few vs. AI games. The furthest I've gotten is playing one card, after which it immediately crashed. A couple games have crashed at the keep/mulligan part (the button to choose which one never comes up) and a couple haven't even gotten to the coin toss.

Yeah, server is flaking out pretty bad. Was solid earlier today, I got in several games.

I don't know that this was related, but the timing was pretty funny.

You broke the server!!!!! :'(

Same problem here. Can't get past the first turn without the game coming to a halt. I can still chat with my opponent (lots of friendly people out there), but the turn priority goes nowhere. 10-12-13 @ around 8:30PM EST. I also tried logging out and back in and the server won't let me login now.

I haven't been able to log in since shortly after the bug I linked above, this is not a universal problem though some of my guildies can log in and out no problem.

Dream come true ? :p

How about CZE pays me for the privilege of blaming any mishaps on me? "Sorry alpha has been delayed indefinitely, gwaer decided to play a game and somehow has replaced the internal components of all of our servers with cans of baked beans. He has left us a series of clues in order to find the missing parts"

"Sorry guys, the servers are down, gwaer tripped over the power cords in our offsite server farm while carrying several pots of hot coffee spilling caffeinated death on everything you have ever loved"...

That's pretty much my dream job.

I can't log in now. So, the server actually ate dirt? Did Gwaer trick it into eating dirt by doing the "here comes the choo choo" with a spoon full of dirt?

Only if the next alpha note contains the phrase "Gwaer broke the alpha" =P

Be careful what you wish for, I guess.

o_O update incoming :)

Joking aside i'm logging in just fine, but its practically impossible to play a game; screen freezes even before the game starts and if not i can't play past the first turn

I got into the log in finally, but things are broken for sure. We need a reboot.

Yeah. Same issue here. Was able to play a few games earlier just fine, but this evening has been unplayable.. I've been watching the Hobbit on HBO instead.

And when people have to watch the Hobbit, you know there's issues.

Yuck... how is the server hardware this terrible with only 2000ish people in beta? When they got $2+ million... Seems pretty crazy to me... Step it up Crypto; I'm losing faith

In before "It's alpha!!! Alpha is alpha!". If it is clearly a simple issue as server hardware power with this few people in the beta alpha is not an excuse

Elementalist

Who says it is hardware Prism? Could quite easily be a bug in the software(it is alpha!!). If you don't understand how it works, why comment as if you do?

I'm not sure it is hardware rather than a memory leak server side. My two crossfire connect graphics cards do keep crashing. I percieve it as a time/coding issue.

It's not 'It's alpha!'

It's likely the GameForge server. I don't know what specs Crypto got for their VM, but it's not good enough, whatever it is. And likely not a cluster or farm to spread any sort of load out.

This is a pretty ignorant statement.
I'm an data center architect, and identifying the cause of these types of issues can be extremely complex.

Bah! Architect. I've read BoFH, I know what you really are. Glorified help desk tech that doesn't need a silly script!

(I am just joking by the way, I work with/in server farms as well)

I'm in however games are crashing right away. Sometimes vs the AI I can draw my hand and sometimes maybe due to pressing ESC I automull before the coinflip. I mulled down to 2 and didn't know until after the coin flip.

well I made the mistake of trying to start an AI game.. had to exit out, and now i can't even connect to the server to chat with the other people in the alpha

Yeah, we can't start any AI games or Challenges at the moment.

Maybe Monday when CZE is back at work we'll give it a shot and see if it's reproducible.
