With beta closing in on us, I believe it's time again to talk about the wiki (http://hextcg.gamepedia.com).

Here's the link: http://hextcg.gamepedia.com

Over the past days, a big update was done, the result can be seen here:
http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Shards_of_Fate_(set)
It contains some information on the first set and all of the cards.

Clearly a lot more work can be done for that page, but also to the wiki in general. That's where you, the community, comes in.

I'm looking for anyone willing to do something. In particular, I am currently looking at the following tasks:

High Quality art of all cards.
Upgrade of Alpha page (http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Alpha)
Upgrade of Beta page (http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Alpha)
Update the CZE page (http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Cryptozoic_Entertainment)
Add content to the Strategy sections of all the cards.

This is just the primary things I would like to fix. The wiki will never be finished and there's so many more changes that can be done.

Some example pages that could be added/Updated:

http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Tournaments
http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Boosterdraft
http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Entrath and all other lore pages
MUCH MUCH MORE!

It doesn't take a lot to create any specific page. Search for what you want to create and if it doesn't exist, it will offer you the opportunity. Adding even a single line is enough to get the gears spinning, the next editor will be able to update your work and the one after that will update it even more. Your single line will grow to become a high quality article. If you're still unsure where to begin, give me a shout through PM and I'll get you on your way.

For more help, you can take a look at the Help pages (http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Help:Contents)

Together we can upgrade the wiki to make it rival wikis like Hearthstone wiki (http://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Hearthstone_Wiki) and the Wildstar Wiki (http://wildstar.gamepedia.com/Wildstar_Wiki). Two highly visited wikis, with an impact on their communities.

I hope that some of you will jump in and make some additions. Together we can make this game soar high.

to avoid fractionalization of information over many domains and wikis. Before the community gives hundreds of man-hours to this, I would like to know if this is the only wiki on hex? If not, is it expected/planned to be the prime wiki resource for hex?

There is a wikia (http://hextcg.wikia.com) wiki, but it's outdated, severely so. It pales with the Gamepedia Wiki. It's also wikia and from personal experience they're not so good with support.

As for the "prime" wiki, that mostly depends on CZE when (and if) they decide to commit to a wiki. However, I would think they would pick the strongest wiki. The only thing that could happen is that they decide to create a wiki in-house, but that seems like more trouble than it's worth. I've already given them a shout and hope to hear from them soon.

The Gamepedia wiki is great and Patrigan has done an incredible job with it. Its great to see users come together and create such an incredible resource. We don't have an official Wiki yet (nor our own or a third party site officially promoted and sponsored by us), but I can say that no hours would be wasted in helping keep the Gampedia HEX wiki updated.

Thanks Shaqattaq!

I've poured in some work, but there have been other community members who have also helped out already. So the props goes to everyone who has helped and everyone who will help in the future.

I hope not, and if they did I wouldn't want to use it. I find that wikis are best if they are run by third parties.

I doubt they will.

Btw, if anyone still is unsure where to begin, give me a shout and I'll get you some tiny task that you can begin with.

Did anyone else notice we'll potentially have An_Idiot updating our wiki?

Sorry, pun, had to, meant nothing by it ><;;

Looking good. I would like to help out a bit. I already made a minor edit of the Alpha page. How can I contact you Partizan if you have any specific task you would like to focus on right now?

EDIT: I also tried to private message you but apparently your inbox is full or somethign ("Patrigan has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space.")

Seriously? Again? And I'm not even popular... Cleaning it out.

I saw your change and I greatly approve of it. Great work.

As for small work things... As mentioned above: Champions (http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Champion)/gems (http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Socketed_Cards)need verification. Where possible the powers should also be updated to conform to the Hex look of powers. A list of usable templates to (mostly) achieve this can be seen here: http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Help:Style_guide#Symbols

Since I have shared that one publicly, I guess I'll have to add way more.
I actually have a big (HUGE) one that is all small tidbits:
http://forums.cryptozoic.com/showthread.php?t=26987
This is the awesome FAQ created by the just as awesome ShadowElf (Where is he now anyway?). Every piece of information (except for outdated info) should find a place on the wiki. Preferably citing the correct reference in each place. If you're unsure where it should go? Just add it where you THINK it should go best. Either it later gets moved to a better location, or the article around it gets improved, making it a seamless part of it.

PS: Example use of references (http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Head_Games)

Edit: I saw that An_Idiot also tried to message me, you can try again now.

The PM storage limit on this site bugs me. Text storage is so inexpensive, and 100 messages is a ridiculously low limit. Since it's really just storing text, I don't see why PM isn't just treated like the normal forums and kept forever.

I think it's just outdated forum software that is in the process of being changed? At least, that's how I understood the whole "Hex will have unified servers for everyone with localized subforums for everyone." that was said. I don't know, but I am pretty sure new forums have been on the list, but all available devs are too busy doing stuff like "Making Hex better" or "squashing bugs" or "Designing set 2" or somesuch nonsense:)

Please, continue the somesuch nonsense, I needs moar!

Hi everyone! I was pretty involved in the early days of the wiki but then real life got in the way. It's great to see that Patrigan kept it going! With closed beta coming I will do as much as I can to help with the wiki. That being said I will be a father to twins soon so my free time will be limited for a while. :)

Hello again. Im currently updating the socketing/gems page. What I noticed is we need symbols for attack and defense. Partigan is there any way I can contact you directly? I got some other questions as well.

What I noticed is we need symbols for attack and defense.

The attack symbol can be inserted by typing {{a}} and the defense one by typing {{d}} Hope that helps.

Edit: What I do when I don't remember a specific template (that is what those are called) is I find a card that has that already, press edit and see how it is inserted. :)

Patrigan

Alternatively to Rap his suggestion, you can make use of:
http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Help:Style_guide#Symbols

But I noticed it was missing the a and d templates. They are added now.

Ok cool. Thanks for the answers. I already saw the symbols page yes, but as you said already, it wasn't listed there. I tried to edit the template the "lList of Socketable Cards" table on the Socketed Cards (http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Socketed_Cards) page but it only shows 2 lines showing the template line. How do I edit the contents of the actual template?

I'm sorry I'm fairly new to wiki-editing as you might have noticed..

EDIT: I also tried uploading some better quality pictures for the cards but when I try to upload a newer version I get this warning: "File extension ".png" does not match the detected MIME type of the file (image/jpeg)."

Any idea why and what to do? The file is a .jpg I also renamed it to a .png file but that didn't help.

Patrigan
04-19-2014, 08:04 AM
you should try to covnert it to png through an image editing program.

As for the list of cards, those usually are a bit special. They make use of an extension called DPL and have a fairly complicated setup. The goal is that we could potentially at any time add another card that makes use of these gems. By simply setting the card as socketable on its own page, it will automagically appear in the list of socketable cards.
Did you notice anything wrong with the lsit, or do you propose any changes to it? Let me know, I can handle them :)

No problem :) I liked doing it and I will probably update some more pages when I have the time ofcourse!
I see you did some polishing (like putting in nice cardlinks with preview), thanks for that so now I learnt how to do that as well :)

To answer this question: In the "List of socketable cards" template there is still "Warlock Inquisitor" (and also the correct Xentoth's inquisitor). Warlock Inquisitor should be removed I suppose..

EDIT: the same counts for Eldritch Dream (wrong one) and Eldritch Dreamer (correct one). Or do you want to keep the old ones as well for archive reasons or something?

Patrigan

Yeah, I still need to go through those. Only deleting them won't do, though, since we need to remember that those cards once had another name.

Got a sandbox page ready, with a list of all PvP cards that aren't in set 1. http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/User:Patrigan/sandbox2
Some should be deleted + redirected, some should be marked PvE (like the Dice) and some should stay and be noted that they didn't make it into set1.

There's always more work to be done on a wiki.

Thanks to the recent surge in activity, we have now passed 800 articles (this includes cards and items though).

We're hoping to reach the 1000 mark soon!

Patrigan

We're currently working on a push to get all PvE information better sorted out. There's a lot of work to be done there, so if you think you can help, hop in and make some changes!

Good pages to start are http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/PvE and http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Dungeons_%26_Raids

Good news everyone!

EVERYTHING (and already a bit more) in the FAQ has been added to the wiki.

If you wonder about Angel of Dawn, just go to her page : http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Angel_of_Dawn
Want to know how much Righteous Paladin would be buffed : http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Righteous_Paladin
Need to know when the Mushwocky is hungry : http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/The_Mushwocky

But not only the cards, everything else has also been added. Just check http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Keywords
And all those special concepts? Well they're in there!
For example
http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Pet
http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Unique
We're now still working on getting everything better linked up, but in the future, going to the card in question will suffice. You should be able to click forward. For example in http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Reversion you can click for ward to the revert page.

There's still a lot a lot more to do, we will be expanding the pages with Frequently asked questions from right here on the forum. These additions will already go a long way in getting you the answers and we hope you will use the wiki as your primary source for answering questions.

And another rather big update.

We added a page for every single trait currently in the game or a previewed card.

http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Trait

How would you use it? Let's say you want to build a plant deck, you just go to http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Plant . There it lists all the plants in the game. Want to know which robots to put in your dwarven deck, perhaps you should try http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/Robot .

There's 84 known traits and probably many more yet to come, so keep an eye on this page!

The text on some of these is very barebones and in a few cases just taken out of thin air. We hope to get these updated with the next big update, which should be a lore one. We'll be creating information pages based on all the flavour text (and some of the names, looking at you Darkspire). This will give us hopefully the chance to update some of the trait pages as well.

Patrigan

The wiki is getting more flavourful!

Not only did we add all art for the shards of fate cards, we also processed all flavour text.

We added links and where needed created or updated pages.

In that process we updated several trait pages to have a bit more information, that was made known in the flavour texts. A great example of this are the witches (http://hextcg.gamepedia.com/witch).

There's still a lot of cleaning up to do. If you think you can rewrite any of the pages you come across, go for it!
