AI in arena Hero of Adamanth

Uses Charge power to void Mother Den Mother to create a second bear. Then plays Cerulean Mentalist.
The use of the charge power was clever but the timing was wrong. The Cerulean Mentalist should be played then the charge power used so that the bear is inspired.

Arena - AI hero of Adamanth

AI tunnels a Mesmeric Hypnoscientist, when it surfaces the Mesmeric targets itself rather than an opponents blocker.

This was very odd!

The AI Hero of Adamanth used his charge power to target Royal Den Mother. With the charge power trigger on the stack I exhausted Argus to void the AI's Mentalist. The Mentalist flickered and was not voided and even more interesting ! the Royal Den Mother Duplicated as a result of the charge power so that the AI had two Den Mothers.

AI doesn't seem to properly prioritize killipede when they are toxified, and going to lose from not blocking.

no, it isn't someone got a little happy with the thread making. It was up for a bit yesterday, but it seems they didn't expect anyone to notice, just doing testing.

Avalanche Giant uses its charge power, but then doesn't attack. It also doesn't seem to understand how to use its Stink Trolls' abilities.

Emberspire Witch used Burn on my 3/3 with a 3/2 and a 5/2 attacking for lethal damage.

Malice Demon played a Ruby Pyromancer from the grave, buffed it with Incite Fury, then didn't attack; the Pyromancer died at the end of the turn. I had a 5/5 in play.

Zoltog took a third Blood threshold instead of taking a second Ruby (which would have activated his passive).

Ballistics Expert played his War Machinist (with equipment) after playing his Charge Bot.

edit: He also dropped a third artifact after attacking with two Rocket Rangers. If he dropped the art before attacking, it would have been lethal damage.

Ruby enchantress has a 0/3 salt harpy with rage 3 but doesn't want to attack with it.

I have zero resources open and a 2/2 flier in play.

Edit: Derp I forgot the 2/2 had double damage inspired. Apparently so did the AI because when I swung it just used the salt harpy to chump block, at least if it had swung it woulda traded with my guy rather than dying to it.

The Avalanche Giant has and equipment that gives gem snatchers speed but they are also gemmed to have speed.

Emberspire Witch at 1 health (with me at 5) played burn and crackling bolt on my only troop (instead of finishing me off) then proceeded to suicide by activating her charge power (presumably out of embarrassment).

Nelebrin Skirmisher's equipment lets Fist of Briggadon give invincibility to target troop when Nelebrin Skirmisher gains a Wild threshold, but it used the ability on Fist of Briggadon itself every time.

Nelebrin Skirmisher also declined to give its Battle Beetle flight, even though it had plenty of resources and I had no fliers.

Mentor of the Grave: With the prosperity challenge in play, she gained a 0 cost Call of the Grave. She chose to play a 1/2 Blood Savant, then use the Call to get a Harvester back, instead of using the action first, and playing Harvester. Then on second main phase she bled all her resources into the savant.

Gobbleglade Witch and Anarchist: Attacks even if i have a lethal backswing, that they could block.

Malice Demon: 0/1 Mazat with rage 2, staring at my 2/2 Task master. Skips attack, and then casts Incite Fury.

Emberspire Witch: Launches a burn at my 2/2 Ridge Raider, over my 2/2 Task Master. Hitting the Task, would remove a relevant ability, and lower the Ridge back to 1/1.

Uh...not sure we can chalk this up to "Ballistic Expert AI is designed to really hate bears".

The attacking troops you can't see are 3 more 5/4 bears (stat buffs from +x/+x Magus inspire)

Also didn't catch a screenshot because it happened kinda fast but against a different opponent:
1. Avalanche Giant
2. Uses Hired Horn Sellsword battle target troop equipment on my 5/6 Master Moss to try and kill it. Obviously it doesn't die. He then doesn't swing with his troops or anything. Doesn't use any removal on it. He just killed his Horn Sellsword with no follow up play.

Uzume still playing Necrophage with no troops in grave. Has equipment where it counts my troops too, but I also have no troops in grave.
(Randomly tunneled troop was a Launchpad Specialist btw)

Gobbleglade Witch didn't use champ power when doing so would have given it another turn of life.

SPAM Bot not using champ power until it had 6 charges built up. Also, incorrectly blocked to allow lethal damage.

Ruby Enchantress used charge power and had 8 cards in hand. Discarded a crackling bolt on turn 2 with 2 resources instead of bolting my 3/3 in play.

Test server is up again and I've noticed some major AI upgrades since 2 weeks ago (I didn't play it on 20-22nd). The number of completely idiotic plays the AI makes seems to be cut by half since then, but some parts of the AI code seem to be completely missing - it can't use some cards at all or does it completely wrong.

Examples I remembered the best:
Stink Troll - AI never uses its Oneshot ability, no matter the circumstances, even when using it would win him the game right away.
Activated artifacts like Worker Bot Factory or Ingenuity Engine - for no reason AI keeps activating them only in my combat phase AFTER blockers have already been declared. This way his produced robots are always too late for the combat and the game becomes stupid easy.

AI still sometimes fails at most basic combat math, but over several hours of play I faced only 1 epic fail:
-Opponent at 9 hp, has a 2/2 troop with no abilities. I attack him with a 5/5 (Master Moss), a 4/4 (Honeycap) and a 1/1 (Sensei). He blocks my 1/1 bunny with his 2/2 robot and dies to 9 damage from the unblocked fatties.

Generally in all cases except that one the AI was able to chump block properly to survive a deadly attack if possible. BUT I noticed the AI never chump blocks if the whole attack isn't going to kill them! It won't chump-block even if it has overabundant defenders. Even if it's at 10hp and can block a 9/9 with a Shroomshaw AND generate a ton of value thanks to multiple ShinHare buffs it won't.

This is a major problem with AI strategy as this can be easily played around (pump tricks or direct damage to finish him off). AI just needs some code that would let it evaluate it's little useless troops versus large chunks of health it's about to lose. And it should recognize when having it's troop die is a positive value so it should use the first blocking opportunity.

I haven't noticed any "personality" kind of misplays - the same errors and strategic misplays are repeated by all opposing champions.

AI never attacked with Mazat Spearman (0 attack) even when I had no troops, as it doesn't seem to understand Rage.

King Gabriel:

AI was at 16 health. I attacked with a 1/1 Blood Cauldron Ritualist and a 19/19 Shin'hare Eulogist. AI had only a 6/6 Legionnaire of Gawaine to block with. It chose to block the Ritualist and sustained lethal damage.

All AIs:

All AIs seem to treat Blood Cauldron Ritualist as a vanilla 1/1 when assigning blockers even if I have plenty of troops to sacrifice to pump it up to 5/5.

Bird o' Plenty is still an easy way to win, if you can get it out. (I particularly like it when the AI hits it with direct damage actions)

I'm not sure if it count as a misplays or if it's part of the "difficulty setting", but the AI seems to have some knowledge of which troops I have tunnelled. The following situation happened on many occasions during my last Arena run:

- The AI has one non-flying troop on board while I have nothing
- The AI attacks every turn with its troop

If I tunnel Fissuresmith, the AI suddenly stops attacking, as if it knew it would get destroyed. However, in the exact same situation, if I tunnel Scraptech Brawler or Reese, the AI keeps attacking, so there's really a change of AI behavior when I tunnel Fissuresmith, which the AI is not supposed to know about. The first time I thought that maybe the AI was simply cautious of tunnelled troop, which is a valid strategy, but it happened way too often in my opinion that I do believe the AI "cheats" in some way and knows when a given tunnelled troop is Fissuresmith.

Psycho anarchist not attacking with speed troops from passive. Granted they would trade but it is in his favor to do so.

In general the AI seems overly reluctant to attack into trades.

In my game the Ballistic Expert boss transformed a Forge of Cadoc into a War Bot. However, the boss neither used the bot to attack or defend and when he had 4 charges he used his champion power to give the bot -> tap to deal 1 damage but he never tapped the bot for this ability. Later in the same game he gave one of MY troops the -> tap to deal 1 damage ability with his champion power.

Nelebrin scout always plays his shards before casting his root dancers, always missing the first proc.

Hero of Adamanth uses his blink ability on one of my creatures when he had no creatures on the board, even though it clearly states he can only use it on his own cards.
Also used Inner Conflict on his own Inner Conflicts.

Sniper of Gowaine uses hero power (troops get +1/+1 and speed) before casting his creatures for the turn.

In general, AI blocking logic does not handle crush well. When close to dead it assign one champ blocker to each attacking creature, not checking wether its worthwhile to block a different non-crush creature to prevent more damage, or wether or not he's putting enough toughness in front of the crush creature to actually survive the attack.
For example my opponent had 8 health, I attacked with my 10/10 tunneling artifact troop, and he assigned 1 savage raider to block it, even though he had 4 more savage raiders which could have blocked as well and kept him alive (he would have had me next turn too...)

King Gabriel attacked with a 3/7 Cerulean Mentalist, I double blocked with a 6/6 Dangerous Beast and a 3/3 Reactor Bot. He assigned the 3 damage to my Beast instead of my Bot.

Knightmare vs Eldritch Dreamer.

AI used its charge power on my Shield Trainer instead of its own Thunderbird!
Throughout the rest of the game it always used its charge power on my troops, not its own.

Later, when it had a Bird of Plenty in play, it would block with other creatures (which died) rather than blocking with the Bird of Plenty (which would survive an fill up its hand with cards).

War Bot paid 8 life to ready Droo's Colossal Walker when he only had 8 life remaining (and could have easily beaten me on the next turn without using the walker).
