I love how the flavor getting added to each encounter extends all the way to the AI's personality! PVE is looking better and better all the time, thanks for the update!

I have to start off by saying that I'm loving the announced AI enhancements! I also really hope the AI will now be able to understand the implications of each keyword in combat and it will also be able to look-ahead at its' opponent's next attack while also keeping in mind life totals :)

When will the AI be ready for Turing test?

I really hope to see the AI learning when it's a good idea to attack and when it's a better idea to save for blocking.

The ideas presented in the announcement are awesome!! I hope they can actually pull it off!

so.... how many months still before my grave nibbler behave like they should?

That is fixed in the upcoming patch. Date TBA.

Yup. Something got messed up with the URL. No editing options available. Thanks for the heads-up though.

While the AI having personality quirks is a great feature and clever design, I think that it's going to be very invisible most of the time. You're going to have to add in some audio/visual cues for some of these quirks (like squealing when a player plays spiders/vennen, cries of outrage or dismay when you destroy their valuable construction plans, etc) or else it's not going to be properly telegraphed to the player.

I look forward to each improved iteration of the AI. It's really going to have to make some progress for PvE to be the strong point it ought to be.

Completely agree with Aradon. AI having personalities that impact their gameplay is a great idea. But it really does need some sort of messaging in game. Hopefully we'll see something added in down the road that will help with this.

Yeah, I agree with Aradon too. Pretty nice ideas.

I'm more concerned with the AI misplays than personality as being what's holding PvE from being great.

I'm more concerned with the AI misplays than personality as being what's holding PvE from being great.

I think that part of the reason for the article is to help us understand that while the AI misplays are an ongoing issue that is being worked on, some of the things that are being perceived as misplays are actually intentional. You may see behavior and say "The AI is being stupid. It lost when it could have blocked my attacker." But maybe that AI character is a ranger that's programmed so that he would choose to lose the game rather than send his beloved pet beast to die in his place.

Again, this is why there needs to be something about this behavior telegraphed by the game. We don't really have a good measure of what's a bug and what's by design without coming to vague conclusions about the internal motivations of a character.
