View Full Version : Chinese Garden Closed Beta Starting Soon™

The Chinese server of Hex is finally opening up to closed beta testing after a long localization process.
Anyone interested can go to (http://event.wanmei.com/hex/challenge/index) and register for a chance at a beta key.

You choose from amongst those 7 "masters" and challenge one. You need to write a self-introduction, if it's good, you'll be given a temporary code. If you win with your temporary code, you get a permanent beta code + a starter bundle, possibly some packs, maybe some AA, who knows. I think that's how they're gonna do it. (Need confirmation...)

More than 10,000 players have already shown their interest and it's your turn now! Join now and get your key before they’re all gone!

Why does the 4th master down have cards that look suspiciously like Hearthstone card backs?

Otherwise, looks very cool, neat and tidy and very slick.

Also, looks like they will have a lot of unique art assets, because I don't recognise any of that. Will have to see some comparisons once everything is up and running. :)

They ARE Hearthstone card backs, ir would seem that he's a Hearthstone tournament champion and streamer.

Most of the guys (and girl) are either MTG or Hearthstone pro players, I mean, these are the first bunch of people who you'd expect to be interested in Hex.

Oh, did not know that. Does seem a little strange that they would allow any form of HS content near an advertisement for Hex (I am meaning art assets only, players are perfectly fine) but it makes a whole lot more sense knowing that.

Well, the art does look similar and is quite recognizable to Hearthstone players. But I doubt it's identical to HS's, that would not be a good idea.

China's china.

Hey, I have no problems with it, it just struck me as odd. But now I look closely, all those images could easily be linked to other CCG's I don't easily recognise. Just glad to see the hype train well underway in China - I wonder if Hex can compete in that market? :)

I registered and challenged the 2nd Master from the top. He looks like a proper evil boss. Bring it on Mr. Guan Da Shi!

Great choice, he's a very popular Hearthstone streamer, you'll probably be featured on stream when you play against him. :D

We have a major street in Boise called "Chinden" which is short for "Chinese Garden." During Boise's early history during the beginning of the 20th century (https://parks.cityofboise.org/media/975758/ChineseGardens.pdf), Chinese immigrants moved to that area and grew gardens of vegetables and herbs that they would later go on to sell.

As someone who recently learned of this history, it was odd to come to the forums and the top post being about the Chinese Garden. I will attribute it to the Baader-Meinhoff illusion, though this is slightly different than what this effect expects.

I felt compelled to share this tangent.

Hex stands a good chance i think, it's unlike anything else on the market and so is at a good place.

MTGO isn't getting translated and Hearthstone is far too casual for many players.

Well...it was all in good fun really as almost all the info I filled in was fake. You need a Chinese name, Chinese ID number, Chinese phone number, and QQ number in order to register. :)

Time to brush up on my pinyin I guess.

On the flip-side, at least my relatives in Taiwan will know what HEX is in the future. :P

That's why I signed up. From all the unique art assets to the way they are launching/promoting the game, Hex Ent. seems to have given lots of room to Perfect World to run it as they see fit for their market. Very curious to see what they can do and how it will impact NA/EU Servers (Population boost from Chinese Players? Economy impact with new gold farmers? Maybe some things Gameforge can replicate/improve upon, etc).

Wow got to be honest, I'm really impressed!
The site looks really good and without understanding anything written there this whole "challenge a master" concept really seems cool.
Now I'm even more wishing that the Gameforge version of the Hex site wouldn't look that horrible :(

I'm absolutely loving some of the artwork on their version of the site. Currently of the ones I've seen, the one-eyed Shin'hare looks amazing.

I agree, the foreign partners for Hex seem to be doing a really good job with websites, from what I've seen around these boards. This concept for getting into the beta seems kinda neat, and they did a good job of making top tier TCG players look like evil villians. Though I'll bet the girl gets as many challenges as all the guys put together.

Perfect World is a great partner and we look forward to the launch of Hex in China. They bring a wealth of experience for game publishing in the China region and we are excited to, in partnership with them, bring HEX to Chinese players.

It's also the first step before we start seeing top players from different regions facing off.

I'm looking forward to it. I'm not good enough to be a representative but man do I want to see the competition.

Need some good commentators and the tools to do it too.

Well, not quite the first step - we did have Latin America with Level Up lead the beta charge long before China (easier to localise I imagine, plus whatever legal stuff has to be a bit easier too.) But these baby steps now (big baby steps at that!) are definitely leading someplace awesome.

That's fantastic news for the growth and development of Hex :) Thanks for sharing Xiao!

The page looks like it's targeting the 15-25 age bracket. Interesting, considering that I think that most Hex players I interact with are above the age of 25. Is it a different market in China? For PvP, it could lead to a hyper-competitive scene if you have young people with heaps of energy and drive looking to make a name for themselves.

It'll be interesting to know if any self-introductions actually get rejected. Having to beat a challenge to qualify for the permanent beta code is a smart way to gamify the application process.

All in all, well played HexEnt. Well played :)

Thankfully I can understand most of what they're saying. Can't be arsed to register an account to chat with them though. ^^;
