Hey, what's that name even mean? Best I can tell is something like "Consuming the parent", but that doesn't seem to be an exact match given the art. Although, if you consider the "parent" to be... well, I GUESS that would make sense. Sort of.

Incidentally, it was evil to make the second clue an image vs text, especially for poor buggers like me whose eyes are prone to go out of focus. It took me about 4 tries to type that all out before I managed to do it without typos. ;)

Heh. I started off typing it, got too annoyed halfway through, then ran it through an online image-to-text converter.

I don't see how googling "QR code decoder" is any more obnoxious than googling "morse code translator" or "binary to ascii".

According to a random online translator, "parri" is Latin for "unholy", so it could be read as something like "unholy consumption" or "devouring the infidels".

For Set 4 I request Cory take a trip all around NA, EU, and AUS, and bury/hide printed out spoilers in a bunch of random places that we can only locate through a series of clues leading up to GPS coordinates that we have to track down and find physically.

It would have, but overall doesn't require too much. I force myself to go through the same steps you would before posting this. Obviously I know how everything works, but all the manual parts I did myself. The binary code was the more difficult part of this though as it required a little more work.

Try making everything lowercase. The translator you're probably using capitalizes the words.

Typo's, missed letters, caps, incorrect symbols, etc, can all cause issues.

An incorrect translation sure wouldn't help either. :p

I don't see how googling "QR code decoder" is any more obnoxious than googling "morse code translator" or "binary to ascii".

Way to ruin the entire game for anyone joining after this post and reading. Luckily i started in on the task at hand before reading but still.

I have to disagree, its for a spoiler. That's like saying they should putt mines in the grocery store in front of the free samples because they are too easy to access.

Also very very nice to finally see a destruction in blood that isn't all not this or that or depending on this or that. But i don't really get what is going on in the art.

Dear Arachnophodes (you know who you are),

You can skip this one.
You have been warned.
And it is a Common, so you will likely see a lot of it, in full Extended Art glory no doubt too!
You can come back when Set 3 cycles out... until then life will be a wee bit...... 'uncomfortable'.

That took alot of work, didn't have all the tools i needed for all parts of the puzzle (leaving it intentionally cryptic so not to spoil) so had to jig up a few things to get it to work :P, that picture was so freaky too, was worth the fun though, and i guess it kinda forced me to register on forum too, so kudos Hex team :P you snuck that one in :P lol

I want to be really careful about doing requests.
If I am not careful, I will get far too many of them.
(which is bad)

But if it must be done, go ahead and give it a try!
You might be surprised at how much fun it is.

I can tell you right now that my art is in writing, not drawing/painting. If I wanted to see a stick figure, I'd google one.

But I understand about the request problem, just keep this one in mind if you are ever bored.

For those of you wondering about the card's name, it's true that "parriphagy" is a made-up word, but as some clever readers have already deduced, it was crafted in a manner to give some clue to its meaning. Now that the card is in plain view, it seems like it might be fun to go into the etymology of this frightening new word.

We started with the term "matriphagy," which could be roughly summed up to mean "mother eating." It's a practice found in some animals (most commonly associated with certain species of spiders) in which the newborns will eat their mother. While that was a good place to start, the "mother" part of matriphagy was a little specific. What we wanted was something more open-ended, like "parent."*

Well, as it turns out, another word that uses the "matri" prefix is "matricide," which is "the act of killing one's mother." Related to that, we have the term "parricide," or "the killing of one's parent." So, if we substitute the "parri" prefix for "matri" in a similar fashion, we end up with "parriphagy," which can be defined as "the condition where organisms feed on their own parent."

So there you have it: the Vennen are such innovators in the field of horror that we had to create new words to describe their practices.

*Alright, technically the troop being destroyed isn't actually the parent of the spiderlings. The little guys function more like protelean organisms in this case. However, the term "parriphagy" feels a lot more evocative, and since the practice of matriphagy is commonly associated with spiders anyway, we figured it would be a justifiable stretch of the definition.
