View Full Version : Alternative to Mass Hysteria Parts Storage & a Box Upgrade

12-15-2015, 12:45 AM
When I got my Mass Hysteria in the mail I was bummed that while technically all the base parts are in the box, I just didn't see how I was supposed to store the punched out stream and slime tokens in a baggie.

Also, pulling out the Mass Hysteria box was a bit of a pain, I had no where for my spectral GBs or zombie taxi drivers, and the included bags were on the small side.

I didn't want to go the foam core route as I have no desire to make my own or buy one for almost $40 that won't let the box close and still not deal with everything.

My solution was to utilize some ribbon & a GB metal lunchbox!

You can see the pics below, but basically....

1) The thick "Slimer Green" ribbon makes it a breeze to extract the minis box. Just like a ribbon inside a battery compartment. Just pull up on both ends and it comes right out.

2) I had extra polybags lying around that were twice the size of the included. It makes storage much easier. Also, I found that the Spectral GBs & Zombie Taxi Drivers fit together in just one of the white mailers, which was helpful.

All of which fits neatly inside the ghost trap lunchbox along w/ the tiles. I could probably shove the Spirit Guide in there too but having it in the mini tray makes it easier to handle both trays when re-inserting them into the brown box.

That is a pretty cool lunchbox.

I want.

The ribbon is a great idea. I'm working on a template to store minis in the original box.

I came up with a rather bare-bones storage solution for game and add-ons.

The addons are simply placed on top of the other game parts:

To prevent the box lid from pressing down on the addons I cut a couple of 2,5cm (1") strips from the shipping box and taped them to the inside of the box lid:

The brown cardboard strips make the lid "hover" above the box making room for the addons in their boxes. This is what it looks like when the lid is on the box:

I kinda like that I now can see the black and yellow stripes on the box.

ok, I made a custom cardboard frame out of scrap, and used one of the trays. I was able to fit all the SG's, and some Ghosts from the second game, Tobin's Spirit guide, and all my tiles into the box. It creeps up a bit. I also used an old comforter package to keep it dry. I may put some foam in the package to make it fit better, but I'm going to bed. at least they are all safe!

Lunchbox is still my favorite.

12-16-2015, 07:31 AM
Yeah it's cool but it is an exclusive

12-16-2015, 07:40 AM

Doesn't look exclusive to me.

Doesn't look exclusive to me.

Actually, it is. This is being sold by Toynk Toys LLC through the Walmart Marketplace.

Let me rephrase.

I thought Brad was implying it wasn't being sold anymore.

Nice! Thanks for the link, Werechicken! I may grab that lunchbox to store my laminated cards.

12-17-2015, 09:19 PM
Oh, it's already on my Christmas list.

You can save $2 and get it from Toynk directly. That's what I did. :)

You can get a .50 cal ammo can for $10 plus shipping and it's water tight, and larger. 11" x 5 1/2 x 7".

12-21-2015, 04:38 PM
But its an ammo can.

I want my ghostbuster case.

I just figured out if you have 2 35mm film canisters, you can fit all the stream tokens and keep them in order.

What GB theme must we paint/apply to these new proton holders...

hmmm...well, they are film canisters. Paint doesn't stick to them very well. These are clear. Maybe a sticker that says "Slime samples"? I'm not too concerned with themes. I put a GB logo over the Black and Decker logo of the heavy duty bag.

I use my galeforce9 Pirates and Bounty hunters Firefly expansion box for what won't fit into the main box. I need to get that lunch box.

Poking around I found these foam trays that fit inside the game box. http://us.battlefoam.com/ghostbusters/ May wind up ordering two sets because I have the Spooktacular add-on as well. Still debating it.

12-29-2015, 05:20 PM
OY, 40 bucks for foam?

OY, 40 bucks for foam?

Yeah, pricey plus I have Spooktacular so I'd need more, but I don't have the time nor talent to make my own out of foam, so I'm leaning towards it. It's probably take me more than $40 worth of time to put my own together as I'm not very crafty. :)

12-30-2015, 02:32 PM
That is true, but still....lotta money for foam

12-30-2015, 08:10 PM
Agreed a lot for foam. On CZE's positive, I like that they striped the bottom of the box (shown in Battlefoam's example), looks like they planned for the box to "stretch". Also makes opening it feel like part of the action.

Annnnd off to Amazon, Etsy, eBay I go!

Yeah the foam is why I went w/ the lunch box/tin idea. I know the box looks cool w/ the lid raised but I'm just going to wind up crushing it at some point. I need the thing to close....oh and $40 for it was a bit much to justify. I used up all of my supply of justification for the Kickstarter lol

And now I think my game is complete. Thanks for posting about the film canisters. I got a bunch of vintage cans from eBay and thankfully I got a lot of more than 2, because a 3rd can fits the slime tokens nicely as well.

I also picked up a set of repro Kenner Ecto-1A sticker sheets to decorate them.

I wanted it to be a slapped together rough look, so the exacto cutting is rough and placement isn't perfect. I like to call these my Stream & Ecto Traps. ;) lol

So, I am just now seeing the film canisters and I am amazed how well it fits the tokens.

Definitely need to get some.

01-17-2016, 10:35 AM
yeah, glad I have a lot of junk laying around. Wishitwas1984 great idea about the stickers. I got these clear containers from JoAnne's fabric for the slime tokens, I was using the little ones for paint.

The lunchbox is on sale for $10:

I need to get some 35mm film canisters! Next time I'm down at my parents' house I'll ask my dad. He used to have a TON of those.

Right now I store my minis in a small parts case I got from Home Depot. It's not elegant, but it has a handle and separate compartments and it keeps the compartments sealed off from one another when closed. Also, when GB2 comes out, I can get another one and they will lock together (you can lock up to 3 together). Of note, I don't paint my minis, so I have not worries about them rattling around a bit in the case.

I bought a pair of these cases. One I use for Ghostbusters, the other for Zombicide: Black Plague.
