Cool stuff - wish a cross-country trip was feasible for me to attend, but alas. :P

No spoilers, just let them play blind at the invitational, then patch it in the following Tuesday.

Sounds good to me! I personally dislike spoiler seasons in TCG land. I do like having a release date pretty far in advance, though.

Im going in for oral surgery on the 4th or I'd seriously be considering hopping a friggin greyhound to the invitational.

I am in on the 3rd for wisdom teeth. So I'm happy because I get guilt-free time off work to sit back and watch a lot of the matches from the comfort of my sofa.

Yeah, I always felt the most fun way to discover a new set was ripping into that first sealed set. Followed by having to stop and read you opponents cards mid match.

It's kind of a conundrum here though, the digital nature makes spoiler hype easy, and in demand. Yet formats like sealed gauntlet are perfect for discovering as you play. Unlimited time to read over your cards and think, takes out the biggest disadvantage to doing it that way.

Makes me wonder whether the Invitational itself will be played using Set 4 or not... :)

Shame. Would love to see them surprise the players... "Oh, by the way... Forget about constructed. You're actually playing set 4 draft! Good luck..."

Rather than piss everyone off, I'd imagine it'd annoy a small number of people (Those playing in the tourney) while giving much enjoyment to a larger number (Those watching the tourney). :D

It's not.

You can't know that unless the players said so. The players knows if they will play 3-3-3 draft or 4-4-3 draft. The rules say 15 days notice.

For constructed I can imagine them running with set 3. For draft it would be interesting for the viewers to throw in set 4.

Now that would be the ultimate Limited challenge. Put all the players in a room with no outside communication. Give everyone 1-2 hours to browse through the new set. They then come onto the Invitational stage and Draft it live for the first time...

Whoever wins that Draft can be called the true Limited master!

Numbers? Numbers! Numbers was invented by them prehistoric Coyotle to thieve jobs from the Shin'hare. Dinosaurs too, hell yeah.

Aside from the fact that they likely want this first invitational as competitively legit as possible, it is highly unlikely that a prerelease set would be anywhere close to bug-Free enough to have anything significant riding on it.

Throwing twists into the mix would be more likely once majors become a regular occurrence in Hex. That being said, I think it would be awesome and audacious to have some side event based on set 4 as an interlude between the main competitive portions... Come to think of it, "Awesome and audacious" is pretty much exactly how I'd describe Cory <3.

No one ever asks "Dinosaurs, what?". Maybe Squidbillies just aren't as popular as I feel like they should be.

Agreed! I think that is what should be done, but unfortunately that's the kind of evil game designing the game makers use in Hunger Games though!

Of course I wouldn't even give them 1-2 hours to preview the Set 4 cards....replace the Constructed part with Sealed so BAM!!! Hit with 102 cards where chances are you've seen none...due to it being 4-4-4-4-4-4 (or hardly any of them) from the few set 4 spoilers! Good luck throwing together an optimal deck that way and then a 4-4-3 Draft for the draft part like it'd be for the normal set 4 draft meta.

So basically how it works at a prerelease if you go in blind. I think people have a bigger misconception of how hard this is than is accurate. Sure some good ones will slip by and some bad ones will slink in but mostly experienced people would do fine at this.

Prereleases are much more fun blind, imo. I hope they just drop Set 4 the week after the invitational instead of a 2 month spoiler fest so the only cards that feel new on launch day are the commons.
