    Just to clarify - are we assuming that once the Phoenix Guard is dead, you can both attack and play cards? I think this was mentioned before but I can't remember the answer.

    If the card is no longer in play, why would its game text still be relevant?

    Is there some sort of precedent that it would persist?

    I think it was something from Magic where the effect started at the beginning of the turn and remained active until the end of the turn, regardless of the state of the thing that caused the effect. Or maybe this was just what someone suggested - I can't remember. If we're going with "once it's dead, the effect stops", that's good enough for me

    I think this covers it:

    412.1. A static ability may generate a continuous effect or a prevention or replacement effect. These effects last as long as the object with the static ability remains in the appropriate zone.
