    WarStomp Mechanics

Can someone explain to me how this exactly works.

If I am attacking with an ally that has war stomp, can I exhaust a protector on my opposing players side and attack the hero no problem. Or war stomp only takes action when there are two allies on my opposing allies sides

    Thanks

"War Stomp (When this ally attacks or defends, you may exhaust target opposing hero or ally.)"

War Stomp will trigger at different times during the combat, depending on what that character with War Stomp is doing.

If attacking, then War Stomp triggers at the beginning of the Attack Window, just after the attacker exhausts for that attack.
Since this happens before the Protect Point, you can exhaust a protector before they can protect with it.

If defending, then War Stomp triggers at the beginning of the Defend Window, just after the Protect Point.
You cannot use War Stomp while defending to stop the current attack, but you can exhaust another character to stop them from attacking that turn.

And will it still work that way when the new rules are implemented?

Unless I've missed something the only thing changing about combat is when you strike with a weapon. The Warstomp power doesn't interact with weapons at all, unless it is also an ally.

    Alright that makes more sense,

Attacking - takes two protectors to stop you

Defending - can stop another ally/hero from attacking

What about the ability war stomp? As in, the actual ability card for tauren heroes, if my opponent were to declare an attack, I use Paladin Training to make an ally a protector and then they use war stomp, do I still get the chance to exhaust that ally to protect or has it already gone by?

The last opportunity you would have to complete the Paladin Training quest would be during the Attack Window of combat, if you wished to use the new Protector during the same combat. Your opponent can respond to you completing the quest by playing War Stomp, exhausting your allies and stopping you from protecting.

Oh very useful info in here, I was about to ask that. Thanks !
For a new player, priority in windows of attack and defense can sometimes be hard to grasp when a card we never used enters play.

Ok but in rules 602.2b Only one character can protect each combat.

So how does having more protectors stop warstomp, since you would exhaust the one character the proposed player would have per combat to protect with

The War Stomp keyword triggers during the Attack Window of combat and will be added to the chain, which is the point where you must select your target that will be exhausted when the power resolves. The protect point does not occur until after the Attack Window closes, and the opponent does not have to declare whether or not to use a Protector (or which one to use if they have multiple), until this point.

So exhausting one Protector will not prevent the opponent from protecting with the other during the protect point.
