Thread: When the chips are down....

Smile When the chips are down....

What are you going to do?

I'm going to support HXE cause that is all I've done and it doesn't benefit me in anyway to stop. Plus I really like and care about the people making this pretty awesome game.

I think we all know mistakes were made, I think they know mistakes were made. I'm not saying we aren't completely justified to rattle the pitchforks as much as we have, but in the end, we all gotta make a decision. Are we helping or hurting? Do we really want them to tell us all their mistakes? Will that make it any better?

I know for a fact they are reading all our comments, and I know it can't be fun. I just tried to imagine if I was in their developer position, got orders from on-high and knew this was coming whether I liked it or not; it was a pretty terrible daydream.

We are closer to the promise than we've ever been before, even if it still feels too far away at times, if we can just bare through it, take the best foot forward we can, maybe everything can turn out great in the end and this can just be a hiccup. The world felt like it was ending when the campaign slipped and then launched with lag too, but all in all, that turned out pretty good.

Maybe set 4 will launch flawlessly, maybe the positive community activity combined with a solid set 4 launch and steam launch will propel this game exactly where it needs to be.

All I know is I have likely gotten all the value out of my constructive criticisms if any, and if I really want this game to succeed, its time to start thinking about how I can help best. It can only benefit the game if the community is riding as high as it can

I'm not saying anyone else should do anything, I'm just giving you my reasoning. HXE is facing yet another major crunch time milestone for their product and doing so without a communications director, things are going to get a little messy. If we can trust them to take care of the back-end, we might have to do the heavy lifting on the front-end.

Maybe we are just emotionally venting a little before we put on our extra-internet Hex uniforms and do our damnedest. I know I've been through a couple cycles of that now.

I know the developers are tired of it, I'm tired of it, you're tired of it, everyone's tired of it, but I'm here for the long haul. <3

I'm not even sure what you find noteworthy here. Any mistakes the HEX devs have made are dwarfed by the ones their card game overlord predecessors have made. Fantasy Flight gave us five years of Game of Thrones LCG, promised it to be a living card game with no set rotation, then murdered it only to release 2nd edition with set rotation and incompatible cards. Thousands of dollars wasted.

HEX nerfs a card that is effectively still in alpha and the shotguns come out....

Hehe... I'm beginning to understand a bit better what Cory meant in a recent interview when this would be a "lifestyle" game.

Just to preempt it, this doesn't need to be a topic about whether people are overreacting or not. The reaction is what it is, the expectations are what they are, dealing with those is part of game development. At this point creating a side argument over whether or not people are being reasonable only leaves everyone on the losing side in the end.

I know for a fact that this community general behaves itself quite well and there are numerous communities that would do a worse job. Sometimes we need to vent, sometimes HXE really needs to hear us.

In the end, if we want the game to be the best it can, we need to come together to help as best we can.

Not sure what made you post this but I'm quite confident that in the end we all agree on what you said.
I'll keep naming mistakes as I see them in these boards and IMO it's way better to have some (constructive) criticism than to be one huge hugbox where nobody ever dares to say anything negative.
That doesn't mean that I don't love the game though. I'll be negative at times here but I always did and always will white knight Hex anywhere else, actively promoting the game the best I possibly can for the same reason I criticise it here: It's the game I want to play for the rest of my live and I want it to be the best it can.
