    Hello!

If you have found yourself on this page, you likely show interest in either deck-building games, or pastel-colored cartoon horses, or both! My girlfriend and I are very knowledgeable about the popular cartoon series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and decided to use our expertise on the show, combined with our knowledge of Cryptozoic's Cerberus Engine, to create a custom deck-building set. This game was made in the spirit of combining all of the best aspects from all of the Cryptozoic deck-builders I have played, while adding in numerous new effects and strategies to create an entirely new feel to the game.

This set includes .PNG and Photoshop files for every card and asset you will need to create a full set of cards, ready for play. This set is not officially published, so cards may receive updates from time to time, which will be listed in a changelog here. I have spent about 9 months creating, tweaking, and play-testing a printed set of cards. However, we don't have the resources of an established company, so my play-testing group rarely exceeded three players. As such, I welcome and encourage all balance suggestions you come up with as you play... and feel free to edit the cards yourself to test your own concepts, too! Treat this thread as a hub for both Balance Suggestions and FAQs.

Here's a breakdown of what you will need to print and play this game:

    1) Sufficient ink and card stock paper. Few places will print licensed material, even if it is protected under Fair Use.
    2) A paper cutter. You can buy them inexpensively, and personally I think having one around is invaluable.
    3) Card sleeves or a laminator. Feel free to resize the oversized characters to fit in a normal card sleeve. I use UltraPro.
    4) VP tokens, or print the Gems I've included in "additional files"
    5) Friends! Sorry, can't help you with that one. ;)

I completely understand if you have no interest in the source material. My Little Pony is a lucrative, but ultimately very niche market. I would appreciate at least a quick look at some the card effects from anyone who has the time. Cryptozoic representatives have already denied any interest in this game, so I don't have high hopes for this game to see the light of day in any official release. Still, with enough interest and tweaking, maybe this can go somewhere, or at the very least, it can be a good learning experience for me!

    Thank you so much,

    L. Dalton Duncan

What's the deal with the Lunar expansion? 1 of each card?

Yes. The Lunar Expansion is similar to a booster pack, and I'll probably release more expansions like it if this game gains traction

Been working with 3vo as well for scripting, great guy.

Got to test out MLP in a three player game, and I thought it was very well done. My party played as Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, and Rarity. Each character felt very different, the new mechanics such as Stashing, and Ongoing # were a welcome addition, and overall it was well balanced. Great design as well, looks professional, not a huge fan of the series, however the gameplay made me easily look past that.

Played two games so far. It's extremely fun. Is there any way you could re-skin the game very easily? Make it any other theme but leave all mechanics the same? You're going to lose a massive amount of the player base just because it is My Little Pony. Half of my friends are already saying they won't play. idk if I'll be able to get them to or not.

I'll be the first to say they're wrong for that. Anyone who plays these DBGs long enough and this regularly should be way over the theme. We're in it for the gameplay. Nobody builds their deck around any character's canon. None of it makes sense anyway - if Batman defeats the Joker, the Joker doesn't suddenly team up with Batman so they can defeat Captain Cold and collect Nth Metal and Batmobiles together. Pretty sure Batman can't develop heat vision either. And how is Kick a super power?

But still, many people will not be able to get over holding a hand full of pastel colored ponies and reference a character named Sparkle or Rainbow or Pixie Pie (who is way OP btw) for their special ability. There's also the struggle of using Harmony and playing cards named the Elements of Kindness and Generosity while dealing out Fear and trying to crush your opponents into the ground. I was exceedingly upset last night that Fluttershy dealt out over 20 Fears to me and Applejack thanks to both his Ursas and the supervillains restoring the destroyed Fears. Really couldn't see how friendship is magic. Felt no harmony.

I can't exactly re-skin easily, and I don't really have a desire to unless I get the chance to be sponsored and make this game a reality.

Im currently working on a set for Star Wars: Rebels, maybe that will be more bearable?

On Pinkie Pie, why is she OP? Do realize her effect is once per turn and without the right cards, can be hard to trigger. Not belittling your comment or trying to sound facetious, just curious for balance reasons.

For Pinkie, I know I'm speaking with way too little experience with the game. There just seem to be a lot of cards that automatically shuffle your deck. +3 is a big bonus and my impression is that it's too easy to trigger. For reference, I also think Green Lantern, Animal Man, Red Tornado, and all the '+1 Power for each type' Super Heroes in DCDB are way OP. It may still be balanced if everyone has a similarly OP character, but my play group doesn't find it very fun for each player to just blow up the SV and the board every single turn. I guess we like longer, more painful games. We only ever play the original to teach new players.

I would like to reiterate that I am extremely impressed with MLP DBG, both production quality and gameplay, and we had a blast playing. I look forward to playing it many more times. Very good job!
